Immediate Past Board of Trustees Chair, Jim DeJong to provide keynote address.
Jim DeJong ’73, Chairman of the Milwaukee law firm of O’Neil, Cannon, Hollman, DeJong and Laing S.C. will provide the keynote address at Carroll University’s Commencement on Sunday, May 14, 2017.
"I'm grateful to have the opportunity to deliver the commencement address to Carroll University's class of 2017," said DeJong. "I look forward to sharing my thoughts with the graduates regarding important things for them to keep in mind as they continue with the next steps in their life journey."
DeJong has been recognized as one of Wisconsin’s best business lawyers for many years. His family has been involved with Carroll University since 1958 and both he and his father the Rev. Lloyd DeJong have served terms on the Carroll University Board of Trustees. Most recently DeJong, the Immediate Past Chair of the Board, was instrumental in Campaign Carroll serving as co-chair working to raise $52.7 million. A key component of the campaign was Michael and Mary Jaharis Laboratories, the first new academic building to be built on campus in the past 50 years.
"Jim has significantly contributed to our success through his clear vision and strong leadership over the years, said Doug Hastad, president of Carroll University. "We are honored to have him share his experiences and insights with our graduates as they prepare for their professional careers."
More than 670 students will receive diplomas at Carroll University’s Commencement ceremony, including 519 expected to earn bachelor’s degrees, 79 expected to earn master’s degrees and 73 expected to earn Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees. They will be joined by thousands of parents and guests at the traditional outdoor ceremony marked by bagpipers and carillon music which will begin at 10:30 am on the lawn in front of Main Hall on East Avenue.
