College and youth orchestras present joint concert

WAUKESHA, WIS.— The Carroll University Chamber Orchestra will present its spring concert at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2013, in Shattuck Music Center, 218 N. East Ave., Waukesha. This event is free and open to the public.

The program will include “The Carnival of the Animals” by Camille Saint-Saens and Edward Elgar’s “Serenade for Strings.” Chamber Orchestra will be joined by the children of the Greater Milwaukee El Sistema Orchestra for a performance of excerpts from “Concerto Grosso,” a piece written by Ralph Vaughan Williams for three tiers of ensembles of different experience levels to perform together.

Carroll’s Chamber Orchestra is directed by Motoaki Kashino. It enrolls string players of all majors and disciplines, as well as winds/brass/percussion players as needed.

This El Sistema orchestra is a joint project of Carroll University, Carroll Academy, White House of Music and the School District of Waukesha. Currently in its second year, it includes second through fifth grade students from Hadfield Elementary School and provides private, small group and ensemble training on musicianship and string instruments. Generous support is provided by the Edith Olsen Music Foundation, the Target Foundation and private donors.
