WAUKESHA, WIS.— Milwaukee-area artists were encouraged to create works inspired by the Menomonee Valley for the third annual "Beyond the Canvas" event presented by Milwaukee Artist Resource Network (MARN). Philip Krejcarek, professor of art at Carroll University, is one of more than 60 artists participating in this nontraditional plein air event. He will show two photographs of the Zimmerman Architectural Studio from Oct. 19-26, 2012, at the Pedal Milwaukee Building, 3618 W. Pierce St.
A closing celebration will be Friday, Oct. 26, from 5-9 p.m. This free event will feature an awards ceremony for the artists, a silent auction, local food and beverages, and live Jazz by Vivo. The artwork will be juried in five categories: Traditional (oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, charcoal, pencil), Time-Based Media, Photography/Digital, Printmaking and Sculpture/Assemblage. Prizes will be awarded at both the established and emerging levels.
Additional events during the weeklong series will be a Gallery Night opening, "Lunch and Learn" instructional sessions, painting demonstrations and the closing reception. For more information, visit https://www.artsinmilwaukee.org/special_events/beyond_the_canvas.php
