WAUKESHA, WIS.— Carroll University will host a faculty lecture and organ recital by Dr. Leon Couch III at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012. The recital will be held in Shattuck Music Center, 218 N. East Ave, Waukesha. This event is free and open to the public.
Couch will perform and discuss major German Baroque period organ works, particularly those of Dieterich Buxtehude, who taught Johann Sebastian Bach. Couch will tie together trends of the time in religion, music and the language of refined poetry and prose. This performance will enhance the audience’s experience of the dramatic, expressive and wild music of this period.
Couch is an assistant professor of music at Carroll University. He has a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in organ performance and a doctoral degree in music theory from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. His undergraduate degrees in physics, mathematics and music were earned at the University of Florida.
