Century Magazine, Carroll University's annual student art and literary journal, will host Phong Nguyen, author of the short story collection "Pages from the Textbook of Alternate History." He will give a reading and answer questions on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at 10 a.m. in the Humphrey Memorial Chapel, 238 N. East Ave., Waukesha. This event is free and open to the public.
Nguyen is the author of "Pages from the Textbook of Alternate History"(Queen's Ferry Press, 2014) and "Memory Sickness and Other Stories" (Elixir Press, 2011), winner of the 2010 Elixir Press Fiction Award. He is editor of "Pleiades" and Pleiades Press, for which he edited the volume "Nancy Hale: On the Life and Work of a Lost American Master." His stories have appeared in more than 30 national literary journals, including "Agni," "Boulevard," "Iowa Review," "North American Review," "Massachusetts Review," "Mississippi Review," "Florida Review," "Chattahoochee Review," "Texas Review," "New Ohio Review," "Southern Indiana Review" and "Kenyon Review Online."
He is an associate professor of English at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Miss., where he lives with wife, artist Sarah Nguyen, and their three children. Nguyen first visited Carroll University in 2012 to share and discuss "Memory Sickness."
