Carroll Players present "The Vagina Monologues"

WAUKESHA, WIS.—February 14 is more than just a day to celebrate romantic love. It also is V-Day, a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls that was inspired by Eve Ensler’s play, “The Vagina Monologues.”

This V-Day, the Carroll Players join the movement with a special presentation of “The Vagina Monologues” in Otteson Theatre, 238 N. East Ave., Waukesha. Two performances are at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are strongly encouraged to benefit The Women’s Center. The public is invited to attend.

Since 2012, the first of an annual one-night-only performance of “The Vagina Monologues” on V-Day tradition, the Theatre Arts Program and the Carroll Players have raised more than $700 for The Women’s Center.

Each of “The Vagina Monologues” deals with an aspect of the feminine experience, including sex, love, rape, menstruation, female genital mutilation, masturbation, birth, orgasm, the various common names for the vagina, or simply as a physical aspect of the body. A recurring theme throughout the piece is the vagina as a tool of female empowerment, and the ultimate embodiment of individuality.

The Carroll Players production is directed by junior Carly Sauer, a theatre arts major from Madison, Wis. It will include more than 20 Carroll University students of various majors and levels.
