Carroll library food and drink policy

The Carroll University Library enforces a food and drink policy to keep the books safe and the building clean.

Leftover food attracts mice, ants, and cockroaches. Not only are the pests unwanted company, they feed on book glues, leather bindings, and starch-filled book covers.

Debris left behind from food and drink creates an unpleasant environment and limits desirable seating and studying space.

Most library users prefer not to sit at a table or carrel littered with someone else's empty cups and discarded wrappers. With the large number of people using the library each day, the time and cost of cleaning up the litter is considerable.
For the rights and comfort of all library users and for the protection of library materials and equipment, please adhere to the Food & Drink Policy that has been established. We appreciate your cooperation and will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Our food & drink policy is endorsed by Student Senate.

Anyone found violating the policy will be asked to leave the library. The policy can only be maintained with everyone's cooperation.

Beverages—Put A Lid On It!

  • Covered or closed containers ONLY.
  • No cans, open cups/glasses, juice boxes, and bottles without lids.
Stick to Snacks!
  • Stick to non-messy or dry packaged snacks.
  • No crumbly food, hot food, fast food, greasy food, full meals, or food delivery.
  • Avoid snacks that disturb others.

No FOOD in the Reading Room.
The Reading Room is a quiet study area, and we feel that noise from snacking would be a distraction to those trying to study.

No FOOD or DRINK at Computer Workstations.
We follow the same food & drink policy that all computer labs on campus follow. There is a table in the Info Commons for you to set your drinks.

This policy is adopted on a contingency basis and will continue so long as the library remains clean and attractive.  Problems such as damage from spills, excessive loose trash, emergence of pests, etc. will force reconsideration of this policy.
