Phi Kappa Phi Awards and Scholarships

“The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi awards more than $700,000 nationally each year to outstanding students, Phi Kappa Phi members and chapters. Phi Kappa Phi sets high standards for its award recipients. Selection committees comprised of representatives from each of the Society's five regions carefully review all applications. Applicants are evaluated based on numerous factors, including academic recognition and awards, campus and community involvement, leadership experiences, and quality and scope of proposed program.”

Awards and grants

  • Distinguished Service Award

    The Ray Sylvester Distinguished Service Award honors an individual who has provided sustained, non-compensated volunteer service to others beyond the realm of academia. The award recipient receives a $1,000 honorarium, a life membership and a recognition citation. The award is given once per biennium.

  • Fellowship

    Each year, 51 students are granted a fellowship award for $5,000 in addition to six students selected to receive $15,000 as they enter graduate or professional studies. 

    • Dissertation Fellowship

      Each year ten Dissertation Fellowships of $10,000 each are awarded to active members who are doctoral candidates and are completing dissertations.

  • Literacy

    The Literacy Grants program was created in 2003 to allow members to use Phi Kappa Phi resources to fund ongoing literacy projects or create initiatives. Grants of up to $2,500 are available for Phi Kappa Phi chapters or individual members. The goal of the Literacy Grants program is to achieve a piece of the mission statement: "...and to engage the community of scholars in service to others."

  • Love of Learning

    The Love of Learning Awards helps fund post-baccalaureate studies and/or career development for active Phi Kappa Phi members. One hundred forty awards at $500 each are awarded annually to active members who have completed their baccalaureate studies and did not receive a Fellowship or Award of Excellence grant.

  • Scholar and Artist

    The Phi Kappa Phi Scholar and Artist Awards honor individuals who demonstrate the ideals of the society through their activities, achievements and scholarships. Each awardee is granted $1,000 honoraria, a one-year active membership and a recognition certificate. One award is granted per biennium.

  • Study Abroad

    Study Abroad Grants were created to support undergraduates as they seek new knowledge and experience through studying abroad. Annually, 75 awards in the amount of $1,000 are given.
