College of Health Sciences
Carroll will begin enrolling its first students in the Master of Pathologists’ Assistant Studies program, which prepares graduates to assist pathologists in the collection, processing, examination, and evaluation of laboratory specimens. Their work plays an important role in the solving of medical mysteries and the diagnosis of illness. The PATH-A program is complementary to the Physician Assistant program, which has long been a competitive and successful program. The new PATH-A program will help fill the educational gap due to the high demand for pathologists’ assistants and the low number of similar programs throughout the country. The associate degree in nursing (ADN) program continues to meet the goal of providing access to nursing education to a diverse student population within the community where the student lives and will eventually work. In just two years, a student can become a Registered Nurse (RN) practicing culturally competent care in urban communities where the nursing shortage is critical. Additionally, the Carroll ADN curriculum is designed so students can continue to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree to improve their professional development and career opportunities. Recently, the ADN program achieved full accreditation status through February 2029. College of Arts and Sciences
Musical Theatre is the fastest-growing major within the performing arts at Carroll. This major provides actors the training needed to become successful "triple threats" who exhibit exceptional abilities in the areas of acting, singing, and dance. Students can easily pair the musical theatre with another major or multiple minors. Students earn course credit when participating in the summer repertory series like the most recent “Heathers” production that took place this summer. To successfully graduate, students also complete a senior showcase in which they perform a one-minute monologue, sing two contrasting solos, and execute a group dance number.
Dr. Jeremiah Cawley was recently named Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Music. Cawley is a sought-after choral clinician, adjudicator, and conducting teacher and has led instrumental and vocal ensembles across the US and UK. He received his MM and DMA from the University of Washington, where he was a student of Geoffrey Boers. With his extensive vocal experience, recorded work, and published scholarship, he will be a vital addition to the College of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Sarah Holtan began her role on September 11 as our new associate dean in the College of Arts and Sciences. As associate dean, Dr. Holtan will guide and support two critical areas, Carroll’s general education curriculum, and the honors program. Dr. Holtan will bring a rich and deep experience to this role, and we are especially excited for her leadership to guide the growth of our honors program.
School of Education and Human Services
In alignment with the strategic plan, Carroll will be starting a Ph.D. in Leadership program. This program, which is supported by other strong programs and talented faculty, will be complementary to what Carroll already does in the sphere of education and human services. Additionally, with the recent closing of Cardinal Stritch, Carroll anticipates assuming students who were in the process of earning their doctorate. While the initial focus will be on K-12 educators including aspiring superintendents, it will also elevate offerings for healthcare professionals and higher education professionals. Faculty and school leadership are working toward an ambitious goal of enrolling students in the summer of 2024. Stay tuned for more information.
The master’s degree in behavioral health psychology continues to see record enrollments and has a 100% pass rate on the licensure exam. We are pleased to be preparing professionals to address the mental health crisis plaguing so many of our cities. Additionally, the creative collaborations within the school and with community partners continue to set our graduates apart and prepare them for the challenges that face our society.
School of Business
The growth of the School of Business remains at the forefront of planning for our faculty and leadership. Work toward AACSB accreditation is progressing and remains a high priority. The faculty continue to combine theory and practice as part of the student’s educational experience. Strong engagement with our corporate partners is a strength across all business programs. Carroll alumni and industry leaders participate in the education of our students by serving as guest lecturers, workshop leaders, and keynote speakers at the Business School’s events, literally providing students with a world of experience. A recently revised curriculum, experiential learning, and internships are all factors that contribute to well-prepared graduates who are ready to add value to the corporations in which they are employed.
