Jack Champaigne ’80 met Diane (Schueler) Champaigne ’80 when both welcomed new students while serving as Carroll orientation mentors. Their friendship grew in the months that followed, leading to a chilled night in February when they spent time shooting photos and then moved inside the basement of Main Hall for warmth. There, he asked her to marry him. It was Valentine's Day.

A TV camera recently installed on top of the Hastad Hall roof provides WISN-12 News viewers in metro Milwaukee shots of weather activity from a campus with a long history of weather watching. While the partnership between Carroll and the TV station is relatively new, the opportunity to provide reliable weather data to the community once came from students and professors inside classrooms tracing back to the 1950s.

Lindsey Slater’s ’08 public service announcement starts with the memory of crawling out of her brother’s bedroom window onto her family’s roof with a camera to capture images of approaching storms. She was just a kid then, of course, and as a professional meteorologist now, she strictly advises against hanging out amid bad storms – the official PSA.
