What made you choose this major?
I’ve always been interested in the business world and felt that developing connections and demonstrating strong interpersonal skills is where I excel. I also have always been great with analyzing and calculating numbers, so finance gave me the best of both worlds.
How has what you’ve learned prepared you for your future?
My courses have taught me how to learn in an efficient and effective manner and I understand that everything I do needs to be my best effort. In the professional world you cannot take any shortcuts.
What opportunities have you had to work closely with a faculty member and what impact has that had on your education?
I definitely appreciated the small class sizes because it was less intimidating and allowed me to ask questions to my professors. I’ve always enjoyed being able to build a relationship with my professors and attending Carroll allowed me to do that. Specifically, Dr. Gregory Kuhlemeyer has been the most helpful with his guidance and expertise in the finance world. Having several classes with him taught me what it takes to be a professional in my field.
What’s one of the most unique experiences you’ve had relating to the coursework for your major?
The most unique and relevant project that I’ve done was writing a stock analysis paper for my investment management class. I would say it was definitely the most challenging, yet beneficial assignment I’ve had. It gave me an idea on what people in my field would possibly do for their careers and taught me how to analyze a stock and give a detailed analysis/report based off numbers and figures that we found and calculated.
How has Carroll enriched your growth as a person outside of the skills you’re learning in the classroom?
I was a part of the track team for two years and would say that was one of the best decisions I made here at Carroll. Not only did it allow me to compete and exercise, but it helped me develop many new friendships and taught me discipline. Because sports are very time consuming it showed me how to better manage my time efficiently and also taught me self-control.
